Library
The Geography library was established in March 1992 and is a public, scientific lending library. Together with the Institute of Geography and Regional Science it is located at Heinrichstraße 36 (entrance on the 1st floor).
The library’s collection is distributed over three floors: you can find scientific monographs, anthologies and university theses on the 3rd floor, atlases and periodicals (scientific series and journals) on the 2nd floor as well as a large stock of maps on the 1st floor.
The collection focuses on human geography, geomorphology, climate geography and applied geography as well as sustainability.
The holdings are organized according to an in-house, historically developed classification scheme. Each book has a call number which indicates the thematic class (e.g. in the call number O 100 A532 the number 100 means that the book is assigned to the class "Austria").
An overview of the classification scheme can be found on each floor in the area of the glass staircase or in the documentation portal.
Please take the books that you want to borrow off the shelves yourself and bring them to the circulation desk.
Books from reserve collections are located to the left of the circulation desk and can only be borrowed over the weekend or during holidays.
New acquisitions are exhibited on the shelf next to the entrance, current issues of scientific journals are presented on the 2nd floor.
All collections of the Graz University Library (including the Geography library) as well as all electronic resources (e-books, e-journals, databases) can be found via the library search portal unikat. Please note that a large part of new literature is only available electronically. University of Graz staff and students can access most electronic resources from any location via VPN.
The library provides approximately 40 study desks, 8 of which are equipped with new computer work stations.
Once a month we offer open tours with a short introduction to unikat. For specific dates, please refer to UGO.
The house rules and terms of use of the University Library of Graz apply.
